PostHog billing pages, read 2026-09-25T06:14Z from a cloud container (one IP), curl's default User-Agent, no cookie jar, no credential. Filed with version 3 of the registry entry `posthog` (payments block). Each section is one request: the exact command, the response headers as received (set-cookie lines redacted where present), then the body. Bodies of the `.md` requests are verbatim; the HTML pricing page (section 5) is stripped to its text with tags, scripts and styles removed and whitespace collapsed, because the FAQ sentences quoted in the entry ("Add a card", "enter your credit card", "invoicing or purchase orders") appear on the rendered page and not in its Markdown representation. SHA-256 of each body as archived is given at the top of its section. No page read answered or mentioned a 402. == SECTION 1: https://posthog.com/pricing.md (Markdown representation, verbatim); sha256 of the body below 3e20068780bba8c863cf593e0106ca66a8f18c5133fe26b15d5d5b03ecc75285 $ curl -sS -D- 'https://posthog.com/pricing.md' HTTP/1.1 200 Connection Established HTTP/2 200 accept-ranges: bytes access-control-allow-origin: * age: 10686 cache-control: public, max-age=0, must-revalidate content-disposition: inline; filename="pricing.md" content-security-policy-report-only: default-src 'self'; script-src 'self' https://*.posthog.com https://www.youtube.com https://fast.wistia.com https://fast.wistia.net https://import-cdn.default.com; style-src 'self' 'unsafe-inline' https://fonts.googleapis.com; img-src 'self' data: https://*.posthog.com https://res.cloudinary.com https://www.gravatar.com https://raw.githubusercontent.com https://obuldanrptloktxcffvn.supabase.co https://cdn.shopify.com https://i.ytimg.com https://embed-ssl.wistia.com https://fast.wistia.com https://cdn.jsdelivr.net https://user-images.githubusercontent.com https://brandbadge.clearbit.com; font-src 'self' data: https://d27nj4tzr3d5tm.cloudfront.net https://res.cloudinary.com https://fonts.gstatic.com https://r2cdn.perplexity.ai https://fast.wistia.com https://fast.wistia.net https://use.typekit.net; connect-src 'self' https://*.posthog.com https://api.github.com https://lottie.host https://better-animal-d658c56969.strapiapp.com https://forms.default.com https://nucleus.default.com https://import-cdn.default.com https://posthog.myshopify.com https://*.algolia.net https://*.algolianet.com https://api.io.inkeep.com https://fast.wistia.net https://fast.wistia.com https://embed-cloudfront.wistia.com https://api.inkeep.com; media-src 'self' https://d1hovhsvet4m1p.cloudfront.net https://res.cloudinary.com blob:; frame-src 'self' https://www.youtube-nocookie.com https://hogwars.vercel.app https://hedgehog-mode-playground.vercel.app; worker-src 'self' blob:; child-src 'self' blob:; object-src 'none'; frame-ancestors 'none'; report-uri https://us.i.posthog.com/report/?token=sTMFPsFhdP1Ssg&sample_rate=0.1&v=1; report-to posthog content-type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 date: Fri, 25 Sep 2026 06:13:49 GMT etag: "2c7f24040d3ce952f1d7fbcfe976127f" last-modified: Fri, 25 Sep 2026 03:15:42 GMT reporting-endpoints: posthog="https://us.i.posthog.com/report/?token=sTMFPsFhdP1Ssg&sample_rate=0.1&v=1" server: Vercel strict-transport-security: max-age=63072000 x-vercel-cache: HIT x-vercel-id: iad1::9t2wb-1790316829441-6710e91d09c7 content-length: 12543 > AI agents: this is one page from PostHog's docs. All prices are in USD. Full interactive pricing calculator: https://posthog.com/pricing ## How pricing works PostHog has two plans: - **Free** — No credit card required. Generous monthly usage limits on every product. 1 project. 1 year data retention. Community support. - **Paid** (pay-as-you-go) — $0/mo base price. You get a free tier on every product, then pay only for what you use above it. The free tier resets every month. 6 projects. 7 year data retention. Email support. There are no per-seat charges. Your whole team can use PostHog. ## Products ### Product analytics Track user behavior across your product with funnels, retention, user paths, lifecycle analysis, trends, and more. Full index of Markdown docs for LLMs: https://posthog.com/llms.txt # Estimating usage & costs It can be daunting to figure out how much a usage-based platform like PostHog will cost, but there are simple ways to estimate your usage and costs. This guide explains why we price based on usage, how to estimate your usage, and tips on how to reduce your costs. ## Why do we price based on usage? Really it comes down to this: The more you use PostHog, the more value you get, and the more it costs us to process and store your data. Thus, we charge based on usage. ### What about charging by monthly active users? Isn't that also usage? Kind of, yes, but actually no. Some users are very valuable. They use your product a ton, they respond to your feedback surveys, and they store a lot of data in your platform. Other users hit your landing page and bounce immediately. From a value perspective, you shouldn't need to pay the same amount for both of these users. It makes more sense to pay *only for the value you receive*, which is *directly tied to user activity* such as events, session replays, or data. ## How do I estimate my event usage? If you're already using another tool and want to switch to PostHog (welcome!), your existing tool may have the exact numbers you need. You might need to ask their support for this data directly if it's not easy to find. Alternatively, you can use one of these two methods. ### Option 1: Sign up for free and get an accurate projected volume in a few days Each of our products has a very generous free tier. They're also very easy to get set up. Simply [sign up](https://app.posthog.com/signup) and start to use whichever product you are interested in. After a few days, you'll get a good estimate of your projected volume on your [Organization Billing page](https://app.posthog.com/organization/billing). If you want a more accurate estimate, give it a week - this way weekdays and weekends will also be taken into account. > 💡 **PostHog Tip:** If your projects volume is higher than you'd like, we offer ways to "tune" your implementation to only capture or use what's valuable to you. See [How to reduce your PostHog usage](/docs/getting-started/estimating-usage-costs.md#how-to-reduce-your-posthog-costs) for more. ### Option 2: Estimate based on your product category and/or MAUs Sometimes you can estimate your volumes based on another number that you know, like your monthly active users (MAU). #### Estimating session replay volume based on MAUs If you know how manu MAUs you have, and you know the average number of sessions per MAU, you can get your estimated volume by simply multiplying the two together. Easy peasy! #### Estimating event volume based on MAUs Events are trickier to estimate based on MAUs because not every type of company has the same type of usage. However, we did a bit of diving into our own data and found that there is a bit of usage consistency within different company categories. Custom capture may be better if you have lots of users. ## How do I estimate the number of feature flag requests? Feature flags and experiments are charged based on the number of requests. The way to calculate this depends if you're requesting flags from the frontend or backend. #### Frontend SDKs We make a request to fetch feature flags (using the [`/flags` endpoint](/docs/api/flags.md)) when one of the below occurs: - The PostHog SDK is initialized - A user is [identified](/docs/product-analytics/identify.md) - A user's [properties](/docs/product-analytics/person-properties.md) are updated - You call `posthog.reloadFeatureFlags()` in your code - You create a [group](/docs/product-analytics/group-analytics.md) For the [JavaScript web SDK](/docs/libraries/js.md), you can estimate how many feature flag requests you will make by doing the following: 1. Check the networks tab in Chrome inspector tools for the number of `/flags` requests 2. Find out your number of monthly page views 3. Multiply your number of `/flags` requests by your monthly page views For example, if on refresh, you see 2 `/flags` requests per pageview and you have ~150,000 pageviews, your monthly feature flag requests should be around ~300,000. #### Backend SDKs ##### Without local evaluation If you're not using [local evaluation](/docs/feature-flags/local-evaluation.md), a request to get feature flags is made every time your backend evaluates flags. For example, each server-side snapshot evaluation call like `evaluateFlags()` or Python's `posthog.evaluate_flags()` makes one `/flags` request. Your estimated usage is based on how often you call this code. ##### With local evaluation If you're using [local evaluation](/docs/feature-flags/local-evaluation.md), each local evaluation request is equivalent to, and charged as, 10 feature flag requests. Local evaluation calls, by default, are made every 30 seconds. Assuming your server is constantly running and making 2 requests per minute, you will be charged `10 * 2 * 60 * 24 * 30 = 864,000 feature flag requests` each month. > **Note:** This figure is for a single server and a single instance of PostHog. If you have multiple servers, PostHog instances, or a different poll duration, you need to multiply your estimates too. ## How am I billed for data pipelines? Your data pipelines are billed on two things: 1. The number of rows exported via [batch exports](/docs/cdp/batch-exports.md) 2. The number of events triggered under [realtime destinations](/docs/cdp/destinations.md) Like other products, there is a generous free tier for both categories which can be seen on the [pricing](/pricing.md) page. ## Estimating your monthly bill Once you've figured your projected event usage and flag requests, you can either: 1. Use the pricing calculator on our [pricing](/pricing?calculator.md) page and calculate your estimated costs for adopting PostHog. 2. If you're getting your estimated figures from your free PostHog account, you can see your projected volumes and costs right there in your [billing dashboard](https://app.posthog.com/organization/billing). And don't forget, we have generous free volumes for every one of our products – even if you're on a paid plan! ## How to reduce your PostHog costs Each product can be tuned to use only the resources you need. - For product analytics, read [how to capture fewer unwanted events](/tutorials/fewer-unwanted-events.md) - For session replay, read [how to control which sessions you record](/docs/session-replay/how-to-control-which-sessions-you-record.md) - For feature flags, read [how to cut feature flag costs](/docs/feature-flags/cutting-costs.md) You can also optionally set [billing limits](/docs/billing/limits-alerts.md) for every product. When you hit your billing limit, we'll stop ingesting your data and you won't be charged over the set amount. ## Creating a billable usage dashboard Want to know exactly what's driving your bill? Create a dashboard with the [PostHog billable usage template](/templates/posthog-billable-usage.md) to break down and analyze your usage across different events, SDK libraries, and products. ![PostHog billable usage dashboard](https://res.cloudinary.com/dmukukwp6/image/upload/posthog_billable_usage_b2b494d4bb.png) This dashboard turns your billing usage into a live, interactive report — so you can create insights, spot spikes, and optimize how you're spending. ### Still have questions? PostHog is usage-based and you can use it for free for as long as you want, no trial needed. See [our pricing page](/pricing.md) for free usage allowances. If you have special circumstances where this doesn't work for you, contact our [sales team](/talk-to-a-human.md). ## How do I estimate how much PostHog will cost? You can check our doc on [estimating usage and costs](/docs/billing/estimating-usage-costs.md), or use the [pricing calculator](/pricing.md) to estimate costs. However, often the best way to estimate costs is to signup for free and go from there. ## How do I update billing information or see previous months' invoices or usage? Go to your organization's [billing settings](https://app.posthog.com/organization/billing) and click **Manage card details and view past invoices** to be brought to Stripe where you can update your credit card, billing information, and see your invoice history. You can also download invoices or receipts from here by clicking on them under **Invoice history**. ## Can I set a billing limit? Yes, you can set a billing limit for each of PostHog's products in your organization's [billing settings](https://app.posthog.com/organization/billing). Check out our doc on [billing limits and alerts](/docs/billing/estimating-usage-costs.md) for more information. ## Are events or replays dropped when I reach billing limits? Yes, PostHog drops data after you go over your billing limit. To capture more during the current billing period, you need to raise your billing limits. For future billing periods, you can tune your PostHog implementation to limit the number of [events](/tutorials/fewer-unwanted-events.md) or [session replays](/tutorials/limit-session-recordings.md) you capture. ## I'm an early-stage startup or non-profit, can I get a discount? Yes, early-stage startups can get $50,000 in credits, merch, and exclusive events. Find out more and apply on our [startup program page](/startups.md). Non-profits can contact our [sales team](/talk-to-a-human.md) after signing up to discuss discount options. ## Can I change the email invoices or billing alerts are sent to? We send billing emails to all owners and administrators in the organization. These are important emails, so we currently don't allow these notification settings to be configured. If you'd like a specific email address to receive these communications, we recommend inviting that email to your organization and assigning them an administrator role. ## Can someone see usage and spend without being an admin? By default, billing is only available to organization admins and owners. See our [access control docs](/docs/settings/access-control.md) for the full list of permissions. If you want members to see the **Usage** and **Spend** tabs without giving them the rest of billing, [contact support](/questions.md) and we can enable it for your organization. They get read-only access to usage and spend data for the projects they can already see. They can't change your plan, payment details, or billing limits. ### Still have questions? Full index of Markdown docs for LLMs: https://posthog.com/llms.txt # Billing limits and alerts To help you avoid surprise bills, PostHog enables you to set billing limits for each of our products. Setting a billing limit means we will stop ingesting and processing your data so you are not charged over the set limit. In other words, if you exceed the billing limit you set, your additional data is lost forever. To set a billing limit: 1. Go to your organization's [billing settings](https://app.posthog.com/organization/billing) 2. View the billing limit section at the bottom of the product and click "Set billing limit." 3. Set your dollar limit in the box and press "Save." You’ll need to do this for each of the products. You can also remove limits by following the same process and clicking “Remove limit” instead of "Save." ## Billing alerts When you set billing limits, the owner of the organization will automatically get alert emails when product usage nears the billing limits. These emails are sent at **80%** and **100%** of the limit. These emails are also sent when you reach **80%** and **100%** of the free allotment. Spike detection complements other billing and usage monitoring features, such as [spike detection](/docs/billing/spike-detection.md) and [usage dashboards](/templates/posthog-billable-usage.md). ### Still have questions? James Hawkins Co-founder Our pricing is designed to make you happy Here's what you should know about our pricing: We don’t have loss-leader products that will go up in pricing later or get retired. We aim to match the cheapest competitor at every scale. Tell us if we're not! (Note: This doesn't include your buddy's two-person startup.) We have significant revenue and are default alive . We don’t rely on investors to grow, and we’re stable. This goes a long way to avoiding the average dumb VC-backed company stuff — like running out of money or selling to a lame bigger company. We have an open source product too. It is MIT licensed if you want to use it in a big organization that isn’t ready to move to PostHog Web yet. If this makes you happy, just start here: Get started - free No credit card required Pricing FAQ How do I know how much PostHog will cost? The easiest way is to sign up, set your billing limit to $0 (if you expect to go over), and install PostHog. You'll get an accurate projection after just a few days. You can also read our doc on estimating usage and costs . Do I pay anything for stored data (events, exceptions, replays, logs, etc.)? No, for all of our products you only pay for what you capture, ingest, or sync in a given month (i.e. you only pay when each event is first received). There are no additional storage costs or fees. How long does PostHog retain data (events, recordings, logs)? Events and metadata are guaranteed to be retained for 7 years on any paid plan and 1 year on a free plan. After 1 year, data may be moved into cold storage so queries may run more slowly. Recordings on the free plan are retained for 1 month. On the pay-as-you-go plan, recordings are retained for 90 days. The Boost and Scale add-ons can increase this to up to one year. The Enterprise add-on can increase retention to 5 years. Logs are retained for 14 days. What happens after the data retention period elapses? Any data stored for more than the retention period may be permanently deleted from our systems. Is there a free trial on paid plans? We have a generous free tier on every paid plan so you can try out all the features available on PostHog before paying (though you will need to enter your credit card to unlock those features). If you have additional needs, such as enterprise features, please get in touch with our sales team . What currency are your prices in? All prices are in US Dollars (USD), excluding taxes. Do you offer a discount for non-profits? Yes in most cases! Create your account, contact the sales team for help with some basic details on your organization. We will then apply a discount. Are there any minimums or annual commitments? Nope. We can, however, offer annual commitments (for example, to maintain pricing) if you need them as part of an enterprise agreement. How does PostHog's pricing work? PostHog has per-product usage-based pricing. This means you only pay for what you use, such as events captured, sessions recorded, and flags requested. PostHog is free to use and each product has a generous free monthly allowance (1M events for analytics, 5K session replays, 1M feature flag requests, and more). There is no minimum spend or annual contracts needed and you can set billing limits so you're never surprised. Which plan is right for me? For nearly everyone, the pay-as-you-go plan is the right choice. It unlocks all of the features of PostHog and remains free if you stay within the limits each month (which you can set billing limits to do). What happens if I hit or go over the free limit? On the pay-as-you-go plan, we charge based on usage for everything above the free allowance. On the free plan, any additional events are permanently dropped and feature flags will return a default quota limited response. Do free tier limits reset every month? Yes. Every month, your usage is reset and you get another 1M events, 5K session replays, and more to use. Unused free tier limits do not rollover. Can I set a billing limit? Yes, you can set a billing limit for each of PostHog's products separately in your organization's billing settings . Check out our doc on billing limits and alerts for more information. What happens if I hit my billing limit? If you've set a billing limit and your usage hits it, any additional events are permanently dropped and feature flags will return a default quota limited response. PostHog will never charge you more than what you've set as your billing limit. How is usage calculated? Usage is calculated on a per-product level. Events for product and web analytics, recordings for session replay, requests for feature flags and experiments, exceptions for error tracking, responses for surveys, synced rows for data warehouse, messages for workflows, and GB ingested for logs. How can I manage my spend? You monitor your usage and set billing limits on the billing page in-app. This shows how much you've spent, projected spend, and a billable usage dashboard. Many products, like product analytics and feature flags , also have docs on cutting costs. Can I cancel my plan at any time? Yes, you can cancel your plan by setting a billing limit at any time and we'll only charge for what you use. If you have an accidental spike , talk to us and we'll help you sort it out. Is PostHog cheaper than competitors? Usually, yes, and often by a significant margin. Because PostHog provides multiple products teams need, we're able to charge less than competitors. We aim to be the cheapest option for each product compared to major competitors. Beyond the all-in-one advantage, most competitors offer time-limited free trials (typically 14-30 days) with restricted features; PostHog's free tier doesn't expire, includes full access to most features, and resets every month, no credit card or sales call required. You can read how we stack up against competitors like Amplitude , Mixpanel , Heap , FullStory , Hotjar , GA4 , and a lot more in our comparison blogs . What do I get with PostHog that I wouldn't get paying for multiple separate tools? A lot less headache, mostly. All your data lives in one place so you don't need to jump between tools or piece them together to do analysis. With PostHog, you can go directly from a funnel to a replay to an error trace instead of context switching to piece together what actually happened. You just need to install a single SDK, manage a single bill, and sign a single contract (if you're into that sort of thing). If you need a BAA for HIPAA compliance, it's one conversation instead of five. Your procurement team will genuinely thank you. When does billing start? Usage starts being tracked as soon as you sign up for PostHog, but you aren't billed until 1 month later. For example, if I signed up on April 6th, my first month would be billed May 6th.
